Say What?
Hi everyone!
I hope everyone’s doing okay and well. If you’re celebrating Eid, Eid Mubarak to you and family! :)
I’m extra excited today for two big reasons - it’s August, which means it’s time for me to go and redeem all those birthday vouchers and discounts. Another reason is also because I’m coming home in a few days! *dances* Can’t wait to have all those good food again!

This is it.
My #100DaysofDissertation is almost coming to an end. At the time of writing, I am at ~14,000 words. Yes, it’s actually more than the minimum word requirements (12,000 - 15,000 words). I may have to actually cut some things out from the final version (mind you, I’ve already cut like 500 words or so today). But, yes, I am almost, almost done.
I can’t believe this.
One year of Master’s study, and it all comes down to this final 15,000 words dissertation. About two months from now, my final results will be released, and hopefully all goes well then.
All the long nights working on the assignments, endless articles and books to read. Granted, I think I could have actually done way better than I did, but, hey, it’s all about making small little progress along the way, no?
I think I’ll save all the reflection thoughts and comments about my Master’s journey for a later time - perhaps when I’ve actually passed and approved to graduate. I was thinking of recording a vlog then to actually celebrate the moment, but we’ll see how it goes. Do you guys think I should do a vlog to wrap it up, or write it all down in a blog post? Or both? Let me know!
Using Your Difference To Make A Difference
I found the article above ringing close to home, mainly because lately I’ve been looking for job opportunities here in the UK, and I’ve been trying to find places where my experiences would come in handy.
That includes everything about me, from being a Malaysian Muslim, to studying undergraduate in the US and postgraduate in the UK and everything in between.
So the main area in my jobsearch are in a university setting, particularly in the Admissions / Student Services / International Office division. Why? One big reason, actually:
Who better to understand international students’ concerns about studying in the UK than a former international student herself?
Plus, I’ve realized that when I’m here in Huddersfield, I see that there’s a gap between the international students community and the home students. Maybe because it’s such a smaller university as compared to UW-Madison in the States, so the gap is more apparent.
And it’s not just here in Huddersfield itself, which is why I think it’d be a great opportunity if I was able to get a job in those areas, particularly to help address the issue. Wish me luck! :)
Mona Haydar - Hijabi (Wrap my Hijab)
This is actually a pretty old video, but a friend of mine shared it recently and I feel compelled to share it with you guys as well in case you haven’t seen it before. The music’s catchy and omg omg omg understand the lyrics ‘cause it’s cool as hell. Plus I love how she was pregnant when they did this - sooo empowering! <3
Covered up or not, don’t ever take us for granted.
Anyhow, I’d best be off for now. Lots of things to do in the next few days. The next time you’ll hear from me, I’d be home, and finally 25, so keep an eye out for the special issue in two weeks’ time!
Until next time - stay awesome, Eid Mubarak to everyone, and take care! :)

p/s - Any suggestions on things I can do from September onwards while I look for a job? I was thinking of picking up reading or writing again, but not sure what to read or write about. Send me suggestions, I’d love to hear from you! :)
